What do I offer?
I provide a full and comprehensive technical editing service for large publishing companies and individual designers. Whether you need a full book editing, or just a single pattern, then I can help you to make your product the best it can be.

I can work with both UK or US knitting and crochet terminology.
What will I check?
-
Written instructions for grammar, punctuation and spelling.
-
That your pattern is written in plain English for easy reading.
-
All maths and stitch counts.
-
That all materials and abbreviations are referenced in the introductory section.
-
That all measurements are correct against tension/gauge provided.
-
Graphs, charts and schematics against written instructions.
-
Grading for multiple sizes.
-
That a consistent writing style is applied throughout, or apply your own house style if this is provided.

What types of patterns can I check?
I can check any patterns, either knitting or crochet, including:
accessories, homewares, toys, amigurumi, baby projects, garments and step-by-step guides and tutorials.

What is my work process?
-
I will save your original file in a fixed pdf format and highlight the errors and areas where a change is required, or suggested.
-
I will use a comment/text box to explain the error and/or suggested amendments.
-
I will recommend that the pdf file is sent to the designer for agreement before any changes are made to the original pattern.
-
I will not change anything without notifying you first.

How long will it take?
This depends on the amount of work involved. For small projects my turnaround time is usually two weeks maximum, but if you have something urgent that needs checking, I will always do my best to turn it around more quickly for you.

What experience do I have?
I have been tech editing for the past 9/10 years and my regular clients include:
-
Immediate Media for Simply Crochet Magazine and various Crochet bookazines.
