Construction:
Front and back are made separately. 
Embellishments are added to front piece before they are joined.
Front and back are joined together with double crochet (UK terms).
 
Yarn requirements:
Aran weight cotton (or any aran weight yarn of choice).
You could also use different yarn thickness for a larger or smaller sugar skull, using a hook that is slightly smaller than the recommended hook size for your yarn.
